1 pound navy beans — dried w/ water to cover 6 cups water 1 teaspoon salt 4 slices bacon — crisp, chopped 1 medium onion — chopped 2 medium bell pepper — chopped 1 cup barbecue sauce 1 cup apple cider 1/3 cup dark molasses — unsulphured 1/4 cup mustard 2 tablespoons cider vinegar 1 cup burnt ends — shredded (optional) Soak beans for at least 4 hours in water to cover, then drain. In a large heavy sauce pan, combine the beans with the 6 cups water. Preheat oven to 325F. Transfer bacon and onion mixture to a greased Dutch oven or other baking dish. |
